TEXTURE CUBE

ASSIGNMENT

Create a 6" cube and incorporate texture and/or pattern onto the surface. You will then convert the cube into a box.

NOTES
STEP ONE:
  • Roll out slabs 
  • Use template to cut out 6 even sides
  • Stack slabs with paper towels in between

STEP TWO:
  • Re-cut squares to make sure they are all square and the same.
  • Cut a 45 ° angle on all side of slabs​

STEP THREE:
  • Start pressing side together and support with coils
  • Smooth out sides and surface using metal rib

STEP FOUR:
  • Add coils to surface to create sections on cube.
  • Make sure that all sides have at least two sections of coil.

  • Add textures to different sections of cube
  • Make sure to balance out:
                   Round balanced to square
                   Smooth balanced to Rough

Why Ceramic Artists Are So Good at Dealing with Failure

Glazing, too, is notoriously tricky; if the coating is too thick or too thin, the desired results are impossible. Plus, chemical reactions between clay and glaze can cause things like "shivering," when a glaze cracks and flakes off a piece's surface.
